Many say that London has it all: culture, night life, great restaurants. And that’ s all good for the winter. But what about the hot summer days? London has ponds and parks where you can enjoy the sun, yes, but what it really lacks is a beach… Until now.

The Greek National Tourist Association has made a huge beach on the Southbank, right on the Thames, to celebrate the summer feeling and the hot weather. Over 300 tonnes of sand in around 1200 square meters of beach space will be set up to entice Londoners to fly to the Greek Islands and get a bit of the carefree spirit of the seaside.

Following the Greek theme, the beach will have a Beach Bar where Greek foods and drinks will be served until 6pm. If Greek food is not your thing, then you can enjoy a bit of Beach Volleyball as if you were in Mykonos lounging on the shore.

The Greek beach will be on the Southbank until Sunday 27 June, just in time for the 30ºC weather that is expected this weekend. So grab your favourite swimwear, flip flops and sunblock – there will be enough ouzo and DJ sets to enjoy the summer, Greek style. Check out the pictures captured by First Pint photographer, Daniel Ross.
