The BBC Proms: Fun for a Fiver
So, you want access to the biggest classical music festival in the world but you’re a wee bit strapped for cash?
Never fear, comrade! The BBC Proms have got your back….but quick! There’s only a mere ten days before it finishes in the crash-bang-wow English patriotism of the world-famous Last Night on September 11.
Held at the Royal Albert Hall, opposite Hyde Park in Knightsbridge, the Proms run classical music concerts every weeknight and often showing two matinees as well as an evening concert on the weekends.
A fiver will get you a standing seat so that you can baroque out to your heart’s content.
Standing around inside a stuffy old-establishment building not your cuppa?
That’s fine. Try the Last Night of the Proms in the Park!
Bring a pic-a-nic and enjoy the whole concert via video link.
But there’s more to proms in the park than just al fresco food and a second-hand concert: BBC 2′s Sir Terry Wogan will host a pre-show concert featuring the legendary Queen guitarist Brian May as well as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, West End phenom Kerry Ellis.
Doors at 4pm, entertainment from 5.30pm.
The Royal Albert Hall is here.
Easiest is to head to Knightsbridge Tube on the Piccadilly Line and then walk west along Knightsbridge for about 10 minutes.
Alternatively, from Knightsbridge tube station, get the number 9 or 10 buses heading west.
