Burke’s Peerage or who’s whom…

Editor: Beware when decaffeinated

Rachel McGovern
Editor-in-Chief

She likes nothing better than some copy to pore over.

That’s actually a lie that she wrote herself.

As the team will tell you she prefers French wine and German beer to almost anything – though she’ll take time out of these to rile her resident Angry Russian whenever the opportunity arises.

She loves London and is determined to encapsulate the city’s mindset in (someone else’s) pithy sentence before she’s done.

Run the gauntlet yourself by mailing (or tweeting) her.

Indu Chandrasekhar
Webmaster; Editor, Cheapside

Indu Chandrasekhar edits, writes and masters the web for The First Pint. Once upon a time she played the violin in a mariachi band and got up to all sorts of other culturally enlightening nonsense. Now she dreams of those times and cries herself to sleep. She spends her off hours consuming frightening amounts of news, doing her duties as a masters student at City and enduring the inescapable cycle of grab-or-be-grabbed on the way to the pub. She knows a lot of song lyrics but has trouble remembering what she ate for lunch. If you have a folding chair, she invites you to open it next to her.

Kathrine Anker

Kathrine Anker
Editor, Street Talk

Kathrine suffers from an acute case of Anglophilia. This normally manifests itself in a tendency to grace her local pub and speak in defence of things like crowded tube carriages and warm ale. Kathrine has sustained a growing love affair with London over the last four years and she’s certain she’ll never leave. When she’s not frolicking in Hampstead Heath or testing her Wellingtons in a rain puddle, she’s scouring the city for quirky things to write about. If you know of a funny street name or a piece of toilet graffiti that deserves attention, Kathrine would love to hear from you. Send Kathrine an e-mail.

heather christie

Heather Christie
Business Manager; Podcast Editor

Sure, Heather writes, edits, podcasts, and seeks out promotional opportunities for The First Pint, but let’s not kid ourselves; Heather loves the sauce in every sense of the word. Saucy attitude? Has it, loves it. A fabulous Bolognaise or Bechamel? Bring it on. And, for the love of condiments (which she also adores), pass that bottle of je ne sais quoi down to this end of the table so she can top up, Pronto! Heather has spent her life puttering around Montreal and Toronto, but she’s a total rolling stone if there ever was one (move over, Mick!). Ultimately, she’s going to do something BIG! but she’ll dance, pic-a-nic, and indulge in life’s more joyous activities until that time rolls around.

E-mail or follow her on Twitter for the full @heatherchristie experience.

Jaime Concha2

Jaime Concha
Editor, In Translation

Jaime considers the part at the end of Ratatouille when the food critic eats Remy’s cooking to be the best scene in the history of cinema and the apex of human creativity. When he was a young lad, Jaime told his friends the story of a civilization of lice people that built a towering structure on one of his classmates’ heads. The story was so popular that he was henceforth known as the “Story Man.” To this day, he is still trying to beat that story. He also indulges in editing copy when there’s nothing happening on the Internet.

Lilly LeClair

Lilly LeClair
Editor, Tomfoolery

Lilly could be singing nursery rhymes or putting money toward retirement like many of her friends, but she opted to spend a year in London racking up student loans and restaurant tabs, while rapidly becoming an afternoon tea junkie. In the last eight years she’s found inspiration by bouncing all over America and traveling the world with her husband (and partner in crime) Kenny, and yet she’s still eager for more. What will be the next adventure to cross off her life’s To-Do list?

Send Lilly an e-mail or follow her on Twitter.

Julie S-B

Julie Stewart-Binks
Editor, Rough ‘n Tumble

Julie is an avid sports follower, watcher, and doer and is learning ever so quickly that “hockey” does not refer to the fast-paced- ice-playing -hard-hitting game she grew up with on Saturday nights. Now she is learning fast about Van Persie and Fergie and teaching others about Lebron James and Phil Kessel. When not doing something school-related, she is working on her personal sports network “JSBN” (Julie Stewart-Binks Network), re-enacting the Rocky Horror Picture Show, or becoming Lady Gaga. Like her Canadian comrade Heather Christie, Julie plans on doing something BIG (and shiny). Send Julie an e-mail or follow her on Twitter.

Vicky Taylor2

Vicky Taylor
Editor, Street Talk

This fresh-faced Dubliner arrived on British soil back in September, eager to sample all things this great city has to offer. Currently pursuing a MA in journalism, Vicky only gets annoyed if her work and social life start to disagree. Like her Street Talk co-editor Kathrine, Vicky is now a defender of all things London and is determined to bring some positive attitude to Londoners everywhere. So if you see someone smiling on the Tube during rush hour (God forbid), it’s probably her. Either that or you’ll find her down the West End watching Hairspray for the 12th time.

Send Vicky an e-mail.

Lena Vazifdar

Lena Vazifdar
Editor, Tomfoolery

Lena left the not-so-sunny hills of San Francisco to travel the world in search of adventure, herself, and the best street food for the cheapest price. Her exploits have made her an expert haggler on things she doesn’t need and given her the priceless gift of being able to sleep anywhere, anytime, whether it be in a cockroach-laden hostel or on an overnight bus in Laos. A writer, editor, foodie, and art lover, Lena has ambitions of someday writing piles of books about travel and all the delicious things she consumes on a daily basis. She is still on the prowl for London’s best burrito, which could prove to be a fruitless cause. Send Lena an e-mail or follow her on Twitter.

Aoife Yourell

Aoife Yourell
Editor, Cheapside; Podcast Editor

Aoife is Irish but has been living abroad for the past five years. She moved to London in 2004 and temped all over the city before becoming a teacher. She fled for the battery-charging climes of Barcelona two years ago, where she acquired a taste for sheep’s cheese, cava on the beach, got stuck in the middle of the odd riot and had her first article published. Hobbies include eating cheese, eating cheese with friends or eating cheese while listening to music. She misses the horizontal rains of Ireland and the unwavering dedication of Barcelona‘s blue skies but loves being back in London.

Send Aoife an e-mail or follow her on Twitter.

Saad Mustafa
Editor, Rough ‘n Tumble
